If you were a kid (or parent) in the early 2000s, chances are Disney’s Lilo & Stitch holds a special place in your heart. The weird alien storyline, those heartfelt themes of family, and the beautiful Hawaiian setting….it was a breath of fresh air! But FFWD to 2025 and Disney went and did a live-action remake. And we know how some of the more recent ‘live-action remakes’ have been …(*CoughCough Looking at you Snow White *Cough) …. BUT THIS ONE WAS SO GOOD!
The live-action Lilo & Stitch stayed true to what made the original unforgettable: the bond between Lilo and her genetically engineered alien misfit ‘pet’ Stitch. But where the animated version played with cartoon exaggeration and slapstick humor, the live-action film injects a deeper realism and emotional nuance. For some reason, the emotional weight in the movie hits harder when it’s real people. They stayed true to the story, and there were no surprises. Like putting on an old familiar sweater, that you finally decided to wash and give some life back to.
Another huge plus in the movie is Stitch himself. He’s such a great blend of practical effects and CGI, he seems SO REAL. He was so fun to watch.
I bawled my eyes out, my 6 year old daughter did not. But I think that’s how it works usually right!?
Do yourself a favour, go see the movie. I give it a tear-jerking 10/10
